Fluoride

The American Dental Association has revised its recommendations and now advises the application of topical fluoride from 6 months of age. Despite the disputes, topical application of fluoride remains a highly effective mean of preventing tooth decay.

The amount of toothpaste that is equivalent to a grain of rice is recommended for children less than 3 years old. Between the age of 3 and 6, a pea-sized amount of toothpaste should be used for each brushing. The municipal water of the greater Montreal area is not fluoridated.
