Dental implant procedure

Dental implant procedure

  • Your dentist or oral surgeon inserts a small metal screw-like post in the jaw.
  • Over time, it fuses with the jawbone.
  • The implant forms a solid basis to receive one or more artificial teeth.

Because the implant integrates into the bone, we can treat it pretty much as a natural tooth, except that it is more delicate and that you need to be more careful when you are brushing and flossing your teeth. It is important to clean gently all surfaces of the implant. A toothbrush with longer bristles at its tip can help you clean behind the implant. Floss gently at least once a day, paying special attention to the junction between the implant and the gingiva. A floss threader can also be useful.
