Fixed Bridge

Replacing missing teeth

If a tooth is missing, it is important to replace it with an artificial tooth as soon as possible.

This will prevent remaining teeth to become misaligned and cause other problems. The bridge, also called “fixed bridge” or “fixed partial denture” is permanently attached to adjacent healthy teeth and replaces one or more teeth.

The procedure

  1. The dentist prepares the two teeth on each side of a missing tooth so that they can receive a crown.
  2. The replacement tooth and the two crowns are custom made in the laboratory.
  3. The dentist places the permanent bridge by cementing it to the two adjacent teeth.

The bridge should last about 10 years if you take good care of it. Your dentist will show you how to use a floss threader to floss around the artificial tooth.
